Notable for is dispersion, Demantoid sparkles unlike most other gems & its name derives from the French for ''diamond-like''. However, it is extremely rare, with most stones found under one carat; demantoids found over two carats are some of the rarest gemstones on earth.

Demantoid commands a pricing premium of at least 30% over tsavorite, which in turn tends to be at least 500% more costly than spessartine and some 5,000% more than rhodolite.
