Gottfried Kumpf is an Austrian artist known for his “naïve” paintings and sculptures which depict landscapes or animals, such as cats, bears, and scorpions. A self-taught and politically minded artist, Kumpf often hides subtly dark or anti-establishment meanings within his works for the viewer to discover. Born on November 29, 1930 in Annaberg, Austria, he went on to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and has since exhibited throughout Europe. Kumpf lives and works in Burgenland, Austria.
